Continental Society makes donationContinental Society makes donation to support foster care students

The Newnan Chapter of Continental Societies, Inc., made a donation to the Coweta County School System and Coweta County DFCS to benefit foster children enrolling in school.

Members of the chapter delivered personal care bags to both organizations in recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention month in April. The personal care bags will be provided to youth initially entering foster care through the local DFCS Office as well as those youth enrolling in the district from other counties at the school system’s Central Registration Center.

Currently, CCSS foster care children and youth receive supportive services through the Foster Care Program (FCP) which derived from the “Every Student Succeeds Act” (ESSA). FCP focuses on school access, improved educational outcomes, and enhanced academic stability for children and youth in foster care. An FCP Coordinator works closely with child welfare agencies as well as other community agencies to ensure that every foster care student has an opportunity to experience success.

“The Coweta County School System is committed to student success and will continue to work toward strengthening strong, authentic collaborative partnerships and community engagement to support all children and youth, including those in foster care,” said Mary Cousins, of the school system's Student Support Services department. “With this level of collaboration, foster care children and youth will achieve more in school and experience greater opportunity to support learning despite the challenges they face.”
